Girly Girls and Feminism

After our WS100 discussion
on fashion, beauty, and patriarchal hype,

my red-headed senior feminist,
who usually wears her long hair tied back,
bulky jeans and a t-shirt,

came to class in a skimpy, flowing, filmsy
dress. With high heels.

It was quite a shocking transformation.

I can't help but feel that her choice of clothing
and something to do with our discussion
about the way some feminist base their feminism,
ironically,
on the rejection of what is considered feminine . . .

more later--off to class--

I wish we had that interesting conversations instead of how to give a person a douche. Oh well, it´s only a matter of choice.

Hey, looks like your getting through to them anyways. Isn't that what teachers are supposed to do?

Sorry I've been AWOL--I just checked a link to my old blog addy and was shocked to see a fake blog advertising porn. And it was such a good name. Anyways I saw your comment and replied. I had to hide out from some people. My new addy is daydreamqueen.blogspot.com and alot of my stuff is there, but my old posts are gone. Glad to see your still here and still not telling us anything in your profile. At least you don't have to change your web addy a billion times like I do.

If "what is considered feminine" has anything to do with high heels then I will whole-heartedly reject it and stick with jeans, t-shirts and feminist pony-tails!! Can you tell that I feel my femininity has nothing to do with my outward appearance ;)

If I were good looking, I would use that to my advantage.

Is that wrong?

I posted a comment here and it disappeared. Dang Blogger.
Have you ever sen an old lady shake her head at a modern lady and say, "tisk, tisk, such a pretty girl..." That's what my grandmother did when my step sister pierced her eyebrow and stopped wearing make up.
WWho says make up and clothes make the woman who she is?? Society does!! And wether you like it or not, if you don't play the game, you lose.
